Six people were reportedly killed at the 259km peg along the Masvingo-Beitbridge highway. The deceased included 2 children and all were burnt beyond recognition. The car veered off the road, hit a tree and exploded into flames.

Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson Chief Inspector Philisani Ndebele confirmed the incident. He, however, could furnish further details. Ndebele said:

We have received information on that accident where six people died, but details are still sketchy. Police are on the ground.

According to Newsday sources, the car had just left Beitbridge border post when the accident occurred. The remains of the six were taken to Beitbridge Hospital mortuary.
