The international NGO of public figures called The Elders has said that it is alarmed by today’s events in Zimbabwe. The country witnessed one of the worst protests in recent memory today.
Said The Elders in a tweet:
We are gravely alarmed by reports of growing unrest & intimidation across #Zimbabwe. @edmnangagwa’s govt has responsibility to manage the economy in a just & efficient way, and must listen to voices of civil society so crisis can be resolved peacefully.

The Elders‚ led by the late Kofi Annan, came to Zimbabwe in July 2018 to assess the country’s preparedness for the elections, which were eventually won by President Emmerson Mnangagwa. They endorsed the country’s capacity to hold free and fair elections.

The sad part is that the ‘Elders’ are firmly scripted to a Western narrative, and attendant preconceived patterns of thuought. If only they held the values of impartiality higher and their shameless tokenism, then they might be worth listening to!!
