Govt Offers Civil Servants 'Only' 10 Per Cent Salary Increment With Effect From April 2019 - Report Claims

Reports indicate that the government is offering civil servants an upward salary adjustment of 10 per cent with effect from April 2019.

The figure was agreed in a meeting between Public Service Commission and the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development to discuss issues to do with salaries. The Minister for Finance and Economic Development Mthuli Ncube proposed the 10 per cent salary increase across the board.

The Mail and Guardian report that the 10 per cent figure is expected to be announced after the meeting between a National Joint Negotiating Council (NJNC) and the Public Service to be held today.

Teachers as have demanded that the government pay their salaries in US dollars while doctors have been on strike for the past 40 days. The Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association revealed today that it was calling off the strike.
