The parliament of Zimbabwe has approved the proposed budget for 2019 and the new controversial 2% tax. Zanu-PF MPs reportedly defended the tax while MDC MPs were opposed it saying it was punitive to ordinary Zimbabweans.
Speaking for the adoption of the tax, Finance and Economic Development Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube said:
We have just agreed to increase the parliamentary budget to $145 million, where do honourable members think that money is coming from?
