Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has endorsed President Emmerson Mnangagwa as the ZANU PF candidate for the 2023 elections. This comes as there has been speculation that the two are fighting for the soul of the former liberation movement.
While addressing delegates at the ZANU PF Annual People’s Conference in Esigodini, Umzingwane District, Matabeleland South on Friday, Chiwenga said
Come 2023 you (Mnangagwa) are our one and only presidential candidate. We will run with you and the party ZANU PF continues to draw from your wise leadership. We won’t wait for 2013 but start now to prepare for your victory, which is certain.
Meanwhile, ZANU PF national chairperson and Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri dismissed reports that Mnangagwa and Chiwenga were not seeing eye to eye. Said Muchinguri
We have heard what the Vice President has said, our sole candidate is Emmerson Mnangagwa. This has made it clear that we don’t have inhouse fights or divisions, the vote of confidence by the Vice President for the President should clear the air and silence the naysayers who believe we are divided.
