Raise Democracy Bar Instead Of Age Bar, Chamisa Tells War Veterans

MDC president Nelson Chamisa has castigated the utterances made by War Veterans leader Victor Matemadanda. The war veterans yesterday called on the parliament to amend the constitution so that the minimum presidential age limit will be raised from the current 40 to 52 years.

The war vets did not say how they came up with that figure and this is considered a move to block Chamisa from contesting in the next two elections. Chamisa turned 40 years old earlier this year. If the amendment is effected, then he won’t be eligible to contest in the 2023 and 2028 elections. Writing on microblogging site, Twitter, Chamisa said

If ever one doubted our July 30 election victory just listen to the chefs’ outbursts. They rule but can’t lead. The Old want to fix the young. Instead of raising the DEMOCRACY bar ED wants to raise the AGE bar. No true new amends the constitution to take away rights!
