The Mashonaland Central District medical officer Dr George Mapiye revealed that confirmed cholera cases in Mt Darwin have risen to 191. The number of fatalities has remained at three. In an interview with the Herald, Mapiye had this to say
As of today (yesterday) cholera cases recorded are 191 and deaths still remain at three. The good thing about the cases that we are receiving now is that they are no longer serious. Government is making frantic efforts to try and combat the disease and prevent it from spreading. People are now aware of the disease due to awareness campaigns being conducted in the district.
The outbreak is still there, but we are still encouraging people to report cases early and some are doing so. We are still encouraging people to practise good and safe hygiene to prevent the spread of the disease. As a hospital, we are making efforts to make sure that cholera patients get treatment and we hope that there won’t be any more deaths going forward.

Lets hope the government will continue putting more effort to control the situation so as to avoid high mortality rate as compared to Budiriro and Glenview incidents.
