Retired Colonel Elliot Piki’s Wife Seeks Order Compelling Authorities To Investigate Husband’s Abduction

On Monday evening, the Zimbabwe Lawyers For Human Rights (ZLHR) said they have filed an application seeking an order compelling Zimbabwean authorities to investigate and account for Retired Lieutenant Colonel Elliot Piki’s whereabouts.

According to National Patriotic Front (NPF) spokesperson Jealousy Mawarire, Piki was abducted by unknown assailants on Sunday. Speaking on Twitter, Mawarire said Piki was set to testify before the Kgalema Motlanthe chaired Commission of Inquiry into the August 1 post-election disturbances. ZLHR said it filed the application on behalf of Piki’s wife Sibongile Sarukato. Said ZLHR:

ZLHR has on behalf of Sibongile Sarukato, wife of missing Retired Lieutenant Colonel Elliot Piki filed urgent habeas corpus application seeking an order compelling Zimbabwean authorities to investigate and account for the whereabouts of her husband, who was abducted Sunday.

According to Mawarire, Piki’s wife made a police report on the alleged abduction under police initial crime report, RRB 3784040. However, Commission spokesperson John Masuku on Sunday dismissed reports that Piki was among those who were expected to testify before the Commission on Monday.
