Karenyi Says She Was Targeted By Police For Speaking Against Sexual Harassment

MDC proportional representation MP Lynette Karenyi said that she was beaten up by police in Parliament last Thursday because she spoke out against sexual harassment by male legislators. On Thursday last week moments before the Finance Minister presented the National Budget in Parliament, Karenyi spoke out against what he called verbal sexual harassment endured by female MPS. Police were called in minutes later to drive out opposition MPs. There are reports that the police bashed MDC MPs and Karenyi was among the victims. Speaking to the Standard, she said

The speaker (Jacob Mudenda) failed us by allowing the police to come into parliament to forcibly remove us. There is no section of the law which says police should be called in if people refuse to stand up in the presence of the President… The police were targeting specific people and I felt that it was because of the issue I had raised which exposed some male MPs.
