BVR Removed Thousands From Mutoko North Voters' Roll According To ZESN

The biometric voter’s roll (BVR) for Mutoko North shows that there has been a significant improvement in the registration of voters. Figures released by the Zimbabwe Electoral Support Network (ZESN) shows that the BVR process flushed out ‘ghost’ voters from the voters’ roll. In a report focusing on Mutoko North Constituency, ZESN said

When compared with the 2013 provisional voters’ roll (PVR) for Mutoko North out of the 29 643 persons registered in 2013, only 13 538 registered voters remain in the roll, while the number of registered voters also dropped to 23 295… The 2013 voters’ roll for Mutoko North had 119 cases of persons sharing both names, dates of birth, gender and polling station. The full voters’ roll released before the 2018 election has none but the latest roll has introduced a duplicate record.

A by-election will be held this Saturday in Mutoko North. The seat became vacant after its representative, Mabel Chinomona, was elevated to the post of Senate President. Three candidates will square off, Rumbidzai Nyabote of ZANU PF, Bornface Mushore of MDC Alliance and Edson Mugoma of the National Constitutional Assembly (NCA).
