MDCA Gweru Urban MP To Sue Police For 'Stealing' Vendors' Goods

An MDC Alliance Member fo Parliament is ready to sue the Zimbabwe Republic for ‘stealing’ vendors’ wares in Gweru recently. Gweru Urban MP Brian Dube says he is preparing the case after scores of vendors at Kudzanayi Bus Terminus had their goods confiscated by police during an operation carried out in the city to flush out vendors. Dube had this to say

That was theft by the police. I have instructed the leaders of the vendors to make a list of their colleagues who were affected by the illegal operation and got their goods stolen by police. I also told them to quantify the goods so that their value is calculated. After that, I am taking the police to court.

However, Midlands provincial police spokesperson Jole Goko defended the move in an interview with the Southern Eye. He said

The goods are being kept and determination on whether they are returned to the vendors will be made by the police.
