Harare Vendors Seek To Return To Four Ways Traders Mall

National Vendors Union of Zimbabwe (NAVUZ) chairperson Sten Zvorwadza had called upon the City of Harare to reconsider its decision to evict vendors from Four Ways Traders Mall along Julius Nyerere. The vendors had been relocated there after they were forcibly removed from various stalls which had mushroomed around the city centre. Zvorwadza wrote to Harare town clerk Hosia Chisango saying

We kindly request your office to urgently pursue efforts to reverse your decision as regards the Four Ways Traders Mall antagonistic suspension without consultation with those affected and their representatives.

Harare City Council’s Informal Sector chairperson Anthony Shingadeya said

While we may discuss this matter, the vendors have to understand that as Council our drive was that the traders go to the sites that were designated for them to trade from and not in the city centre.
