Govt Orders Chitungwiza Town Council To Terminate Wellcash Debt Collectors Contract

In an interview with The Herald, Chitungwiza Town Council’s George Makunde confirmed they terminated their contract with Wellcash Debt Collectors following a directive from Government.

Makunde said the termination was going to have a negative impact on service delivery. Said Makunde:

Yes, it is true that we terminated our contract with Wellcash last week after we received an instruction to do so from the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing. It is quite unfortunate that service delivery will be affected. We were doing our best using the money which was being collected by the company to render services to our clients.

Chitungwiza’s contract with WellCash was supposed run until February next year. According to council finance director Mrs Evangelista Machona, Wellcash used to remit an average of $50 000 per month.

  1. Government departments in the domitory town owe council substantial amounts in unpaid service charges. Those revenues plus the pending breach of contract penalties will be of substantial prejudice to council. Then you blame MDC for poor service delivery?
