Suspended Chitungwiza Mayor Reinstated In An Acting Capacity
Chitungwiza Town Council on Wednesday elected suspended mayor Gift Tsverere in an acting capacity. He was suspended from the post after ZANU PF councillor for ward 13, Kevin Mutimbanyoka approached the High Court seeking nullification of the results of September 4. Mutimbabnyoka described the polling process which initially elected Tsverere as irregular and illegal. Tsverere was suspended together his deputy, Jabulani Mtunzi and the duo was barred from carrying out any duties as mayor and deputy mayor respectively. High Court judge Justice Edith Mushore granted an interim order. After his reelection on Wednesday, Tsverere had this to say
My election as acting mayor means that I can act and do certain duties on behalf of the city as prescribed by councillors. We know the case will soon come to an end.
