GMB Faces Uncertain Future: Auditor-General Chiri

The Auditor-General Mildred Chiri has cast doubt on the Grain Marketing Board’s (GMB) ability to sustain itself as an ongoing concern.  GMB was established in 1931 under the Maize Control Act in response to the 1930 world recession. In a report tabled before Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube, GMB is said to have losses amounting to $208 968 178 as of March 31, 2017. In her report for the financial year ended December 31, 2017, AG Chiri said

These circumstances indicate the existence of a material uncertainty that may cast significant doubt about the board’s ability to continue operating as a going concern.
