Gokwe Town Council Mulls Legal Action Against Rates Defaulters

Service delivery has continued to deteriorate in Gokwe town due to the failure of residents to pay rates and bills. Gokwe Town Council is owed $2,8 million in unpaid rates and bills by ratepayers. The council has gone as far as to threaten legal action against defaulters. Gokwe Town Council Secretary Melania Mandeya said

We appeal to the ratepayers, both individuals and corporates, to approach our town house for engagement and see how best they can settle their bills. We have a debt management policy which contains a provision for engagement… The same debt management policy also contains a provision for lawsuits in the event the two parties fail to reach an agreement.
