Sanctions Are A War Crime: Prof Steve Hanke
World-renowned economic commentator, Steve Hanke has spoken against the economic sanctions against other countries as they mostly affect the poor and went as far as calling them war crimes. Hanke’s views are in sync with what most of the local business people have said, and even those in the diaspora such as Econet founder Strive Masiyiwa. There has been a lot of talk around the amended ZIDERA and the general sentiment has been that the punitive economic measures have to go in order to give the local economy a new lease of life. Writing on twitter, Hanke had this to say
Sanctions are economically illiterate and punish innocent civilians rather than targeted governments. Often times the political elite get rich while the ordinary citizens are left to live off scraps. It's time to call sanctions what they are: war crimes. https://t.co/3S0SMcC6a6
