The Zimbabwe National Network of People Living with HIV (ZNNP+) has called for patients following claims by Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries leader Walter Magaya that he discovered a cure for HIV/Aids. ZNNP+ said that the authorities need time to investigate and verify the claims. In the meantime, ZNNP+ called on all people living with HIV to continue taking their antiretroviral treatment. We publish the statement below:
The Zimbabwe National Network of People Living with HIV (ZNNP+) and various civil society organizations in response to the claims made by the Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries leader Prophet W Magaya at a press conference on the 28th of October 2018 that he had found a cure for HIV. While we welcome all efforts to identify a cure to HIV we appeal for patience as we ascertain the validity of these claims. Naturally, the news of a ‘cure will bring relief to the over 1.4 million PLHIV in Zimbabwe particularly PLHIV who have been on treatment for a prolonged period of time.
We urge all PLHIV to exercise patience as we engage PHD Ministries, Ministry of Health and Child Care and other independent researchers to verify and authenticate the claims made. We urge PLHIV to continue to take their antiretroviral treatment as prescribed to prevent an upsurge in their viral load and potentially treatment resistance.
