Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) acting director Dr Lazarus Nembaware told the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Primary and Secondary Education that the examination body has acquired its own printing machine in a bid to stop examination paper leakages.
Nembaware was presenting Zimsec’s budget expectations for next year. He said Zimsec expects to start printing its own exam papers in June 2019. Said Nembaware:
With the help of the ministry, we have acquired a robust printer and Zimsec is now going to be able to print the question papers itself. We had been contracting other organisations to do that and it became a point of leakage. So this time we have more control when this printer is in use and we are hoping that in June 2019, we will be printing all our question papers ourselves.
He also said they have upgraded their distribution by using a cluster-centre approach to distributing the question papers. Nembaware said cluster centres were manned by a police detail, a cluster centre manager, a Zimsec official and a deputy to the cluster centre manager.
