ZCTU Leaders Granted Bail

Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) president Peter Mutasa and secretary-general, Japhet Moyo who were arrested in Harare on 11 October 2018 were released on $50 bail each when they appeared. They will appear in Court on 30 October 2018.

They were charged with participating in a gathering with intent to promote public violence. On Friday, Mutasa and Moyo appeared before magistrate Mr Nyasha Vitorini along with Simon Mutasa, Ezekiel Matema, Munashe Chirovamari, Benice Maluleke and Prescilla Johni.

Meanwhile, ZCTU activists who were arrested in Mutare on Thursday on allegations of attending an illegal gathering with intent to promote violence were yesterday granted bail by a magistrate’s court. The 20, who included ZCTU regional manager Tenson Muchefa, were represented by the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, appeared before Mutare magistrate Tendai Mahwe, who granted them $50 bail each. They will appear in court on October 26.
