Govt Blames Unjustified Price Increases On "Greed And Bad Politics"

The government has promised to take measures to cushion the general population from what it termed unjustified price increases. The government has said that it identifies with the suffering of the people and has blamed greed and bad politics for the increase in prices which have been taking place since Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube and Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) governor John Mangudya presented the Fiscal Measures Statement and the Mid-term monetary policy statement last Monday. Writing on its social media account, the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting, said

Government recognises and identifies with the suffering of the people due to unjustified rise in the cost of living. Sensible and effective interventions will be taken to mitigate against any hardships that is suffered as a result of greed and bad politics. We are all together in this.

The government has since threatened to revoke all operators’ licences for all businesses which are raising prices or charging for their products and services in foreign currency. The government did not specify where the bad politics was coming from although some ruling party legislators have blamed the opposition MDC for the price increases.
