Bulawayo Residents Association Calls For Kombi Boycott After Increase In Fares

The Bulawayo United Residents Association (Bura) has called for a boycott of commuter omnibuses (kombis) after the public transport operators increased fares by 50 percent. In Bulawayo, kombi trips are now going for 75 cents from 50 cents. However, the kombi operators have said that they want to increase the fares from 75 cents to $1.00. Speaking to CITE, BURA chairperson Winos Dube said

If we could all stand together for a cause, this madness can just come to an end within a short space of time. Let shops close if need be, let the Kombis stop operating. We should not allow these people to rob us…Any normal person cannot pay 75c today then tomorrow pay a $1 it is unacceptable considering that fuel prices have not increased.
