Chamisa Alleged To Be Pushing For Prime Minister’s Post Ahead Of MDC Emergency Meeting

State media has alleged that opposition leader Nelson Chamisa who has called for an emergency meeting for his party on Monday, wants President Emmerson Mnangagwa to appoint him as Prime Minister. Chamisa has in the past refused to accept the position of Official leader of the opposition which Mnangagwa offered insisting that he will not be bribed. State media has also claimed that Chamisa will use the Monday meeting to attempt to push out secretary general Douglas Mwonzora.

However, Chamisa’s spokesperson Nkululeko Sibanda dismissed all the claims. Said Sibanda,

The president has called for the meeting, yes, but I cannot share the agenda with the Press at this stage because you will be informed of the resolutions of the meeting after it has taken place…What I can only say is that the president is strengthening his party and priming all his members so that they can remain in line with the SMART agenda that we seek to deliver.
