Burombo flats in Bulawayo’s Ngubonjeya suburb have been condemned by The Minister of Health and Child Care as unfit for human habitation. Dr Moyo also stated that the conditions at the flats are a health time bomb.
The Burombo flats are overcrowded and tenants have communal toilets with an average of 50 people sharing a toilet. Because of the overcrowding, Dr Moyo said that the area was in danger of a Cholera and TB outbreak.
Dr Moyo asked the Bulawayo city council to quickly find a solution to the water and sewer problems at the flats.
Said Moyo:
This is a health hazard and we condemn it. We are fighting cholera yet we are creating it here. This is a major source of cholera; this is the type of facilities we are saying should be improved. We implore the council to look into this matter seriously and ensure that residents live in a clean environment.
