Bond Notes Must Be Removed: Chamisa

MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa has called on the government of President Emmerson Mnangagwa to urgently remove the bond note saying that the surrogate currency had failed. Speaking through his spokesperson, Nkululeko Sibanda, the opposition leader

You need to have a plan to remove the bond note; you can’t deal with the bond note crisis when you are an illegitimate government. In order to deal with it, you need what is called investor confidence…You need confidence from neighbouring countries. (President Emmerson) Mnangagwa said he would join monetary unions across the region, picking and choosing the most appropriate, but in order to join those unions, you need to have an economy that is sustainable and has sufficient political legitimacy but that is a problem because he is illegitimate.

However, Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) governor John Mangudya has maintained that the bond notes have not failed and insisted that the notes are not the main issue in the economy.

  1. A lie, nothing so far proves that a Munangagwa gvt is illegitimate other than only an unfounded claim by the failed Chamisa & his group;facts on the ground speak to the contrary

  2. The call for removal of bond notes only amounts to mere politicking;it is not the real issue but having a viable alternative, even Mnangagwa himself has never said bond notes will remain forever but is only scurrying for n viable alternative while the bond notes are temporarily there
