Open challenge to Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Kirsty Coventry by a Chipinge youth Ashirai Mtirikwi Mawere to resuscitate two dilapidated swimming pools in the community. The changing rooms have since been converted into Sadza stalls but Ashirai still believes the next generation of swimmers can come from Chipinge central.

It would be a challenge, but realistically it would be only viable to renovate those swimming pools if it were sustainable, if it could be proven that they would be sustained and maintained. It must also be mentioned that in every town up and down the country there are other similar derelict public swimming pools, if the Government fixed those in Chipinge, what about all of the others? Would it be fair to just deal with Chipinge? TBH though there are other priorities at the moment like fighting cholera, and providing clean water – that needs to be prioritised over swimming.
