ZRP Downgrades Traffic, Minerals And Anti-Stock Theft Branches To Sections

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga has downgraded the traffic branch into a section, in a move which made the top posts in the department redundant. The creation of the traffic, minerals and anti-stock theft branches is alleged to have created problems by promoting corruption and introducing multiple chains of command. A senior police officer who spoke to NewsDay said,

There were a lot of bosses doing nothing and most of these presided over massive corruption, especially at the minerals and traffic branches. These had become cash lords in the force and collapsing the branches makes command structure easy and manageable.

Announcing the disbanding of the Traffic Branch, Matanga said,
