Potraz Says Telecommunications Companies Should Not Focus On Cities Only At The Expense Of Rural Areas

The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) has said that it will order mobile network operators, Econet, NetOne and Telecel to connect the people in Maranda, Mwenezi, who have limited access to communication channels. Potraz said that the telecommunications companies should not focus on the big cities while marginalising the rural communities. Phibeon Chaibva, an official with Potraz told Daily News,

We’ll engage NetOne, Telecel and other companies and find out why they have no presence in this area. It is the consumers’ right to freely select their service providers, as well as products and services, from a variety of offerings… The mobile phone is the most powerful technology for ending poverty in the world today.
