Treasury set to spend over $20 million on top-of-the range vehicles for Members of Parliament and Senators

Treasury is set to spend around 20 million towards the purchase of top of the range vehicles for members of Parliament and Senators. It is alleged that government is considering acquiring Toyota Hilux double cabs, Isuzu KB D-tech or Toyota Land Cruiser 200 series for the lawmakers, valued between $60 000 and $180 000 each.

Cognisant to the fact that the bicameral Parliament has a total of 350 MPs and Senators, at least $21 million would be spent on the legislators in hard currency.

Kennedy Chokuda the Clerk of Parliament said they would only have a clearer picture of the vehicle requirements for the ninth Parliament once the committee on standing rules and orders has looked into the matter.

The committee is chaired by the Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda.

Said Chokuda :

For now, we don’t know what they (MPs) will be given because the committee on standing rules that is responsible for that has not said anything yet
