The South African Police Service (Saps) has revealed that the country’s murder rate has increased by 7 percent to its highest level in the last nine years. For the 12 months up to March, there were 20 336 murders, an average of 56 murders a day. The murder rate is 35.2 per 100 000, which is six times higher than the United States.
Police Minister Bheki Cele told lawmakers in Cape Town,
I can say the South African Police Service dropped the ball, his situation must be arrested and reversed with lightning speed. South Africa has not reached a state of lawlessness. These crime statistics will not get worse.
South Africa is home to the majority of Zimbabweans who have left the country.
