In an interview with The Herald, Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ) board chairman Albert Mugabe said they are lobbying for the establishment of a Road Accident Fund so that any person involved in a road accident gets medical attention.
Mugabe also said TSCZ is finalising a proposal to become an authority because as a council it lack sthe jurisdiction to ensure compliance. He also said traffic fines must be reviewed to reduce road accidents. Said Mugabe:
Traffic fines must be overhauled to reflect the tragic reality of non-compliance. Some of our traffic fines are not deterrent enough as compared to the region. For example, driving a public passenger vehicle without a licence attracts a penalty of imprisonment in Botswana, yet here it is a $100 fine.
