Zacc After Zimra Commissioner Who Demanded Bribe To Facilitate Whistleblower’s Reward

Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) commissioner in charge of investigations Goodson Nguni has said that Zacc is closing in on Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) ‘s commissioner responsible for investigations for demanding a bribe. Charles Jaure is alleged to have demanded money from a whistleblower in order to facilitate payment of his reward. The whistleblower is entitled to $1.8 million (10 per cent of the amount recovered) after his information resulted in Zimra recovering $18 million from NetOne which had been evading taxes.

Said Nguni,

We are seized with the matter; our team is on the ground investigating the case in which the Zimra official, Charles Jaure, who is the taxman’s commissioner responsible for investigations allegedly demanded money from a whistleblower

According to NewsDay, part of the whistleblower’s statement to his lawyer reads,

I refused to accede to his demand for a bribe or any form or any undue consideration and this was the beginning of my problems with Mr Jaure. However, in a concerted effort to avoid confrontation, I requested Mr Jaure to recuse himself from all my cases as he was conflicted but he vehemently refused…The Zimra official has been withholding payments for my cases despite him being legally obliged to do so.
