We Are Headed For An Economic Catastrophe: Mwonzora Speaks on Recent Price Increases

MDC Alliance secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora has warned that the country is headed for an economic catastrophe after the recent price increases. Mwonzora attributed the increases to the lack of confidence caused by a disputed election. He also blamed President Emmerson Mnangagwa for leaving the country and going to China without first installing cabinet ministers. Speaking to NewsDay, Mwonzora said,

We are headed for an economic catastrophe. The prices of basic commodities have shot up and there are massive job losses looming. It shows that Zanu PF is not the answer to the current economic quagmire we find ourselves in. It is important to redress certain fundamental issues, including the chronic issue of legitimacy and respect of the people’s will…The country right now is clearly on auto-pilot with the President having gone AWOL. He has not attended to the appointment of Cabinet, leaving a policy gap, lack of confidence and free-for-all which is now manifesting in the failing of the bond note, price hikes and spinning economy which Zanu PF is clueless to contain.

Zanu-PF has promised to deal with the issue saying that it is also worried about the price hikes.

  1. We just have economic saboteurs vasingadi kuona vanhu vachigara zvakanaka just because vatadza kupinda pahasha. hazvishandi izvo politics dzakapera saka lets burry our differences and unity for a better Zimbabwe

  2. Since the creation of Mdc in 1999 this is their modus operandi, they create severe economic hardships for the ordinary people and purpport kuti ndivo chete vanokwanisa kugadzirisa economy thus why they have the following of urban people who are affected most with their barbaric policies, vekumusha they are less affected because most of the goods in Ok, Pick&Pay etc they can get them from the soil.

  3. If the MDC is responsible for the economic hardships and price increases we are experiencing now, then it simply means they deserve to be leading.

  4. this bush economics want to cause panic and pandemonium with misguided knowledge vachifunga kuti vangatonge manje nyika haina kuchipa zvakadaro
