MDC National Youth leader and Highfield West constituency MP-Elect Happymore Chidziva has been arrested after he presented himself at the Harare Law and Order. Chidziva was charged with inciting public violence during the pre-election campaign rally in Gweru. Also arrested was Chamunorwa Madya, the Deputy Secretary-General for the MDC Alliance Youth Assembly and Mafaiti Mubaiwa. Madya and Mafaiti have been charged with the August 1 violence. At least 6 people died when soldiers used live bullets to quell a protest by opposition supporters which had turned violent. The pair will appear in court tomorrow.
Chidziva has been transferred to Gweru, where the alleged offence took place. All three MDC Alliance members were represented by lawyers from the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR).
