AIPPA And POSA Are Not Affecting Anyone, Nobody Has Complained Since November: Minister Ziyambi

Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Ziyambi Ziyambi has said that since the ouster of former President Robert Mugabe, no one has complained about the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (Aippa) and the Public Order and Security Act (Posa). Civic society organisations and pro-democracy activists have in the past led calls for the two laws to be repealed describing the laws as draconian. However, in an interview with NewsDay, Minister Ziyambi said the two acts are not affecting anyone. Here is an excerpt from the interview,

NewsDay: Any movement on repealing Posa and Aippa?

Ziyambi Ziyambi: From November, nobody has complained about those laws. I believe it was a question of perception and an attitude by the previous regime. We have had demonstrations and you as reporters are doing your work and nobody is harassing you. Those pieces of legislation are not affecting anyone. Going forward, however, we will have to look at these laws.

We have identified certain sections that will improve our laws for the improvement of the justice delivery system.
