Mnangagwa Mourns Kofi Annan

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has mourned former United Nations (UN) Secretary General Kofi Annan who died yesterday aged 80.

Annan died after a short illnessHe was part The Elders that came to Zimbabwe in July 2018 in the run up to the harmonised elections and met both Emmerson Mnangawa and leaders of opposition parties. Speaking on his official Twitter account, Mnangagwa said Annan’s message of democracy must continue in Africa and beyond. Said Mnangagwa:

Kofi Annan, 7th Secretary-General of the UN and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate was an inspiration. I had the honour to spend time with him in the build up to our recent elections. His message of democracy, peace and harmony must continue to reverberate, both in Africa and around the world.
