National Prosecuting Authority Is Independent: Acting PG Speaks On Biti Case

In a statement Acting Prosecutor-General Mr Kumbirai Hodzi said the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is not involved in politics and is not an agent of persecution against any politician or citizen.

Hodzi’s statement comes at a time when President elect Emmerson Mnangagwa revealed that MDC Alliance politician Tendai Biti was released after he intervened. Said Hodzi:

We want to categorically emphasise that the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is an apolitical institution and is not an agent of persecution against any politician or citizen. Zimbabwe is a peaceful country with law-abiding citizens and our duty as an agency that is involved in the preservation of law and order is to ensure that peace prevails.

Hodzi said there was no need for Biti to escape to Zambia. The State did not oppose bail in Biti’s case.

  1. Logically the fact that Biti tried to run away to Zambia meant he was a flight risk hence we question your motives of not opposing bail unless it’s true what Mnangagwa said that he intervened on the case. This further gives credence to the allegations that the judicial system isn’t truly independent and the national prosecuting authority takes instructions from Mnangagwa!

    1. Maybe the bail was granted considering other factors, Biti won the parliamentary seat and he can not risk losing that seat by going outside the country for good and secondly he paid $5000 bail.

  2. Munangagwa akatiza nehupenyu hwake achitiza Zanu Pf. So if the child ran away from his home for yes ko murorwa ke. Apo makambkkomba imba yamai vake. Wakagona zvako Biti kutangira shura
