In an interview with The Herald, Zanu-PF Mashonaland West provincial chairman Ziyambi Ziyambi revealed there were incidents where the party’s district chairpersons were election agents for the opposition.
Zanu-PF won 17 out of the 22 National Assembly seats in the province, with four going to MDC Alliance and one to an independent candidate. MDC Alliance captured Chinhoyi, Kadoma Central, Chegutu West and Kariba while Temba Mliswa captured Norton constituency as an independent. Ziyambi said there is need to restructure Zanu-PF. Said Ziyambi:
We are a party that is in transition. What we have observed is that we need now to go back and restructure the party to ensure that loyal party cadres hold positions particularly at district level. I know in Zvimba and some areas we had several district chairpersons who were election agents for the opposition. We were surprised when we were getting to the polling stations, somebody you were giving the task of organising a meeting for you being an election agent of the opposition.
