President Emmerson Mnangagwa has called for peace and for people not to use provocative language. A few hours after Mnangagwa’s entreaty, the Zimbabwe Defence Forces used live bullets on opposition supporters who were protesting at the election results. Mnangagwa urged his counterpart Nelson Chamisa and other leaders of the MDC Alliance from inciting people. Said Mnangagwa,
At this crucial time, I call on everyone to desist from provocative declarations and statements. We must all demonstrate patience and maturity, and act in a way that puts our people and their safety first. Now is the time for responsibility and above all, peace.
