According to the results of the parliamentary elections which have been released by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec), the ruling Zanu-PF party has won the lion’s share of the seats and is poised to win two-thirds of the seats which will allow it to amend the Constitution. Unsurprisingly, the reactions are mixed. Here is how some people on the social media site, Twitter, reacted:
When all this is over, we must have a deep convo about rural Zimbabweans: our perceptions & assumptions about them, their logic, what drives them, their connection to the urban & even diaspora & vice versa. One day. When the toxicity levels in our body politic recede.

Good Morning Zimbabwe
Today some will be hurting , others will be celebrating. Its time we realize there is more that unites than divides us. We are one people ,one nation. We have a beautiful ,well endowed country. Let’s put our differences aside and work for a better future.

Guys don't blame rural people, they did not vote @edmnangagwa. The ghosts that @Pachedu2018 gave u voted. This was a well-calculated mafia grab. The only question is where to from here.

Watching the disappointment exhibited by the urban people towards the rural folk is saddening really. Sort of resonates with the diaspora v Zimbabweans in Zim we see a lot on these streets. We must accept that rural folk have their voices and that doesn’t make them stupid

AU says media environment largely polarised.
On Election Day:
-majority of polling stations opened on time
-voting took place in peaceful & orderly environment
-ZanuPF & MDC Alliance had the most polling agents
-ZEC well prepared for polling day— C.E Mambo 🇿🇼 (@cemambo) August 1, 2018
1. There is no good reason why ZEC has managed to announce parlay results but not presidential results per constituency. Counting was done same time. It’s designed to plant a false narrative in the national psyche that the outcomes of the 2 elections are identical #ElectionsZW

I have come to a conclusion that Matebeleland people don’t care or have forgiven ZanuPF about Gukurahundi because if they did they wouldn’t have voted for the very same party that massacred their kith and kin. It’s only us on social media who talk about it .@zenzele #ElectionsZW

African Union heard claims of vote buying, subtle intimidation , traditional leaders bias but couldn’t confirm this and can not determine impact on vote. #Zimdecides2018 #zimbabwe

In the end, if formal institutions fail to illuminate the will of the masses, then the people will, in the streets of their land, speak out again(louder and physically), in defense of their victory, their future and their president Nelson Chamisa.#ItsNowOrNever pic.twitter.com/ECnKOjpLBs

Our fellow Zimbabweans whose parties were unsuccessful, expect no gloating from us. We thank you for giving this a good run. Let’s embrace, join hands and focus on rebuilding our country. Whilst naturally there are disappointments at the personal level, Zimbabwe has won. pic.twitter.com/uAErEfcRu7

The problem is that we don't want to learn from our past and current mistakes. Let's accept defeat, take some lessons and become better. We can't just accuse without evidence, it doesn't hold in a court of law. pic.twitter.com/9MPBftq4VA

An accountable government is an effective government. Let’s all establish the names/contact details of our MPs/councilors & ensure that they deliver. We can’t go back to the underperformance & excuses we saw in the past. We must demand results. They don’t get to have a free ride.

So many lessons…double candidates.. lack of internal democracy (primaries).threats of boycotts in run up to elections..ignoring party structures…clarity of campaign message…attack on women..attack on judiciary..seems in terms of opposition politics Zim is still in the woods

Let me repeat ED didn't win this election and never will. Have my word for it. Relax people relax. We can't giveup now , that's their intention to frustrate you and make sure you believe in their lies. We won this election as the people of Zimbabwe.

Do you know who DIDN'T lose an election? Everyone who didn't try stand for an election. The easiest way not to lose is not to try. That's never been an option. So I accept every insult and mockery that is coming my way, from everyone who didn't even try. Salute those who did! pic.twitter.com/SHPFItUcCZ

5 stages of electoral grief:
1.DENIAL-‘We hv won.ZANU can’t win an election’
2.ANGER-‘Rural voters r foolish & deserve to suffer’
3.BARGAINING-‘Maybe a GNU’
4.DEPRESSION-‘What’s the point of even hvn elections’
5.ACCEPTANCE-‘Let’s prepare for 2023’
Which stage r u Nerorrists? 😂— mmatigari (@matigary) July 31, 2018
Some of the rural vote results sound incredulous. Could we have a brave reporter tear themselves away from Harare and ZECs all night ‘pungwe’ to go check if there really was no single MDC Alliance voter in Uramba, UMP https://t.co/wSIvgLmwHq
— Wiz Bishop (@WizBish) July 31, 2018
Talking too much on social media is the order of the day for MDC Alliance sympathisers! We voted for our Party, its emerging a victor…and some are busy making noise on facebook, tweeter, whatsapp, instagram etc
