Obert Gutu Concedes Harare East Seat To Tendai Biti

Deputy president of the breakaway MDC-T party led by Thokozani Khupe, Obert Gutu has conceded the Harare East house of assembly seat to former minister Tendai Biti. According to Gutu, Biti won the seat which was previously held by Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Terrence Mukupe.

Writing on microblogging site Twitter, Gutu said

Congratulations to Tendai Biti for winning in Harare East.
This is democracy. I remain a democrat to the bare bones.

The Harare East seat had been initially reserved for Tendai Biti’s People Democratic Party (PDP) when the Coalition MDC Alliance was formed. However, Gutu went against the coalition before later pulling out of the Nelson Chamisa led MDC-T to join Khupe.

We await official confirmation from the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec).
