Presidential Candidate Pulls Out Of Election, Says Election Will Not Be Credible Due To Zec

With less than a week before the July 30 harmonised elections, presidential candidate for the National Alliance of Patriotic and Democratic Zimbabweans, Divine Mhambi Hove, has pulled out of the presidential race. Hove made the announcement during the Multi-Party Liaison Committee meeting which was chaired by Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) commissioner Qhubani Moyo on Tuesday. Hove said that his withdrawal has been necessitated by Zec’s poor handling of elections which he believes will result in an election which is not credible.

Said Hove

I can predict that there is nothing that they (Zec) are willing to do…we know that Commissioner Moyo, like I said in the last meeting, cannot make decisions and its seven days and this is the time to make decisions other than engaging Zec. I think that is all I can say. And I want to officially state that as a presidential candidate, I feel these elections will not be credible. As such, I will not be participating in them. Nation Zimbabwe I am out of the election.

However, Zec refused to accept Hove’s withdrawal saying that it was too late to withdraw.  Commissioner Moyo said,

Your names are already in the ballot, the election has started, people have voted using postal ballots. Therefore, Mr Hove, your withdrawal is too late.
