Zanu-PF Must Not Resort To Violence, Intimidation If They Lose: The Elders

The delegation of The Elders called on the ruling Zanu-PF party to accept the results of the July 30 harmonised elections no matter the outcome. The Kofi Annan led delegation which also comprised Mary Robinson, and Lakhdar Brahimi called on Zanu-PF and the security services not to repeat their tactics of violence and intimidation.

Said Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights,

Zimbabwe is blessed with talented, eloquent and passionate people. We have been deeply impressed by the commitment of civil society groups here to build a better future for their country. The authorities and security services must continue to allow free expression whatever the election outcome, and not revert to past tactics of violence and intimidation.
