Chiwenga Says Govt Is Working with RBZ To Make Sure That Ecocash Rates Go Down
Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has reassured the nation that the government is working with the monetary authorities at the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) to ensure that rates for mobile money payments go down. The vice president singled out the country’s biggest mobile money company Ecocash by name. Addressing a Zanu-PF rally in Highfield on Monday, Chiwenga said,
We hear you on the issue of Ecocash rates and we assure you that we are working on it. The money that is being given to pensioners is a very small amount and we want that amount to be increased. We are talking with the Reserve Bank to reduce the rates.
Last month, EcoCash’s chief executive officer Natalie Jabangwe-Morris announced that the company was going to reduce its tariffs soon.
