Mugabes Offered 24 Million, 12 Cars For Chamisa's Campaign In Exchange Of 82 Parliamentary Seats, Vice President’s Post

The Independent reports that former President Robert Mugabe and his wife Grace, offered MDC Alliance presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa $24 million United States dollars and 12 vehicles for his campaign. In return, Chamisa would reserve 82 parliamentary seats and a vice president’s post for the National Patriotic Front (NPF) linked to the Mugabes.

The idea of working with the Mugabes was met with stiff resistance from some of Chamisa’s partners in the MDC Alliance. An unnamed official told The Independent that they told Chamisa that working with Mugabe was not a clever idea. Said the anonymous official:

We made it very clear that we didn’t think that the involvement of Mugabe was a clever thing since we believed he had run his race. The wife is worse.

Another official said they would rather sacrifice than work with Grace. Said the source:

I know he (Chamisa) has been receiving calls from Grace. We don’t have a single cent or car right now. But the rest of us said we would rather sacrifice than involve ourselves with Grace whom we all know is heavily discredited.
