The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) is reported to have added over 11 000 names to the national voters’ rolls despite claiming that it had released the final version of the voters’ roll only weeks back. When Zec released the voters’ roll on 18 June it had 5 683 936 voters. However, at her Monday press briefing, Zec chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba said,
Decryption of the remaining registrants who registered during the voters’ roll inspection period was completed and these entries are now on the final voters’ roll which has a total of 5 695 706 voters.
The opposition MDC Alliance had previously accused the electoral body of releasing a “fake” voters which was subject to change. At that time, Zec denied the allegations saying that no additional names would be added.
