Bulawayo Explosion: Two Suspects To Appear In Court

Two Bulawayo men, Douglas Musekiwa and John Zulu have been charged with insurgency, banditry, sabotage or terrorism, after being alleged to have been behind the Bulawayo explosion at President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s rally. The explosion killed two people and injured well over 40 other people. The two suspects who are reported to have been detained by the Military Intelligence Department are due to appear in court on Monday.

This comes after Bulawayo magistrate Gladmore Mushove issued a warrant for further detention. Part of the application which had been made by Chief Superintendent P R Moyo of Bulawayo Central Police Station reads,

Douglas Musekiwa arrested without a warrant and that from information available to me there are reasonable grounds of suspicion to the effect that he has committed the offence of c/s 23(c) (i) (ii) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act Chapter 9:23. Insurgency, banditry, sabotage or terrorism and thus apply for a warrant for his further detention.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said that he believes that the G40 Faction was behind the attack.
