Mukupe Buys Replacement Phone After Court Orders Him To Return Phone He Allegedly Stole

Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Terrence Mukupe is reported to have bought a replacement phone to restitute NewsDay journalist Blessed Mhlanga’s wife Florence. Mukupe bought a new Samsung S7 Edge mobile phone to replace the one that he allegedly stole from Florence after she had she had recorded the minister threatening to beat up Mhlanga over an article he had written.

This comes after Harare Magistrate Richard Ramaboea on Thursday issued a provisional court order compelling Mukupe to return the phone within 6 hours of demand. Writing on Twitter, Mhlanga said,

We have just taken delivery of a brand new S7 phone from Mukupe as replacement of (the) phone he stole from my wife following (the) order by courts. Thanks to all my Twitter friends lawyer.

Mhlanga also said they would have preferred to get the original phone back because it contained important data. He  said that it appeared as if the original phone had been destroyed in order to “destroy the evidence.” Mhlanga is being represented by Chris Mhike who works with Media Institute of Southern Africa (Misa) Zimbabwe.
