Chamisa Is Starring At An Electoral Defeat: Herald Correspondent

Herald correspondent Elijah Chihota believes MDC Alliance presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa is bound to lose to Zanu-PF’s Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Chihota gives his analysis of how Chamisa has handled politics since his days as the MDC-T national organising secretary as an argument that the MDC Alliance leader will be defeated on July 30. He argues that although Chamisa won the Kuwadzana East National Assembly seat since 2003 he did not bring meaningful development to residents. He argues that the MDC-T’s 2013 defeat to Zanu-PF was Chamisa’s fault because he failed to organise the party as the MDC-T national organising secretary between 2011 and 2013.

Chihota also lists Chamisa’s defeat to Douglas Mwonzora in 2014 during the party’s congress for the secretary-general’s post. He also argues that Chamisa’s failure to lure other presidential hopefuls such as Dr Joice Mujuru, Professor Lovemore Madhuku and Elton Mangoma shows that he is not a political strategist. Chihota says Chamisa was outclassed by Thokozani Khupe and that he has no political party except “a rag tag and shaky political outfit termed the MDC Alliance”. Below is a quotation from Chihota’s opinion piece:

Such failure shows that he lacks political clout and cannot outclass his rivals. The July 30 election is set to show Chamisa that he is a small fish swimming in a big pond when he loses to President Emmerson Mnangagwa as many surveys have already indicated.
