In an interview with The Chronicle, Zanu-PF Secretary for Administration Obert Mpofu said party members who are running as independent candidates had automatically expelled themselves from the party according to Zanu-PF’s constitution.
Mpofu said Zanu-PF members who are running as independent candidates after losing the party’s primary elections disgust him. Said Mpofu:
Those who lose primary elections and stand as independent candidates disgust me. We view that as disloyalty and lack of patriotism on the part of the comrades who decided to go against the party. Our constitution is very clear, when one stands against his own party s/he becomes automatically expelled from the party. And we hope those who have done that are aware of the consequences that will befall them in terms of their membership to the party.
